LASIK Cost in Chicago

The cost of having LASIK surgery to correct some common vision problems can vary, depending on many factors.  The extent of your vision error may play a role.  People with smaller prescriptions may have to pay less than those with more extensive vision errors.

Advertised prices can vary from $1,500 to $7,000.  In general, prices in a large metropolitan area such as Chicago will be somewhat higher than that of smaller and more rural areas, simply due to cost of living differences.  Some doctors, however, may advertise what seems to be a very low price, but will end up adding on “extras” not included in the ad.  These extra are actually necessary aspects of your LASIK care and surgery, such as costs of a facility and follow-up visits for about 12 months.

In addition, choosing a “cheap” doctor may not always save you money.  A surgeon who will perform the procedure at a very low cost may be inexperienced and not certified, which could increase the likelihood of complications.  You may end up paying additional money to correct such complications and delay improvement of your vision.

Another factor that can influence the cost of your LASIK surgery is the type of LASIK you have.  There are several variations of procedure and type of instruments, some which cost more than others.  For example, if you choose to use the IntraLase – a laser microtome, or a bladeless microtome instead of the more traditional metal blade microtome (used to make the cut the cornea the LASIK flap in the cornea), it will cost from $240 to $500 more per eye.  If you utilize Wavefront Technology – a special instrument that maps your eye for a more precise picture - that could cost an additional $200 to $500 more per eye.

Most surgeons have financing plans as well, and can make the procedure affordable.
